• Tenants Together – Building power across borders

  • Tenants organize all over Europe

As tenants, we are facing the same struggles across Europe: rising rents, unsafe homes, strong heat during summer… and landlords and real estate agencies who treat housing as a source of profit, not a basic right. But we are not alone – and we are not powerless.

We, members of tenants’ unions across France and Europe, are organizing together. We are learning from one another, supporting each other, and building collective power to take back control over our homes.

In France, we are tenants organizing where we live – in working-class neighborhoods, public housing, private rentals, and run-down buildings. We are building unions in different cities like Lyon, Aubervilliers and Villeurbanne. And we are not alone. We are creating the federation Locataires Ensemble (Tenants Together) with other french unions like Alda in the Basque Country or APU du Vieux-Lille in Lille.

As ACORN members, we are also proud to have strong connections with powerful grassroots organizations in Europe that share our values and our mission: Wuune in Belgium, Living Rent in Scotland, ACORN UK in the United Kingdom, and all ACORN international affiliates.

We also build a network of tenants 4 just renovation with Re-Set in Czech Republic, INN in Czech Republic, and Soziale Warmwende in Berlin.

  • Why european and international solidarity matters

All over Europe, we – as tenants – are dealing with the same issues: rents we can’t afford, homes that are unsafe, strong heat during summer... Moreover, the renters Landlords and real estate companies use the same techniques and sometimes even operate across borders. Besides, policies made at the EU level often shape housing markets locally.

To counter this, we need international solidarity. By connecting tenants’ unions across Europe, we can:

    • Push for stronger tenant protections EU-wide

    • Demand an end to housing speculation

    • Show that organized tenants are a political force that can’t be ignored

  • Let’s connect

Are you partof a tenants’ group in Europe? Want to start one? Looking for allies or
campaign support? Let’s fightback, together. Another housing system is possible – and we’re building it, block by block.
